PhoneFlare was explicitly designed for sexual assault protection. Through speaking with victims of sexual assault and rigorous testing on college campuses we devised protections for women on that may help deter sexual assault, increase response time or make instances easier to prosecute. Pulling headphones from the phone as a way to call for help is perfect for blitz attacks while jogging or walking home alone in the park.
Check-in times can be set when you expect to be home so friends and family can be alerted if your phone is alarming but you're not conscious enough to check in, from say a quaalude or date rape scenario. Finally, audio is recorded and UDIDs captured to utilize later on if sexual assault charges are filed.
PhoneFlare texts friends and family your location when in danger and automatically calls your school's safety dispatch if you're on a supported campus. Triggering an alarm is as easy as ripping headphones or an accessory from the audio jack or charging port, pressing a button, or setting a check-in time you fail to meet. Advanced features prevent coercion and allow audio recording during emergencies. The app even catalogs the UDIDs of nearby devices as potential evidence.
PhoneFlare is totally free with all server and accessory costs being paid with donations or out of pocket by our volunteers. Free accessories are being manufactured to hand out on campuses and women's shelters. While designed to curtail instances of sexual assault on campuses, PhoneFlare can have practical applications for everyone, including children and the elderly (we are rolling out support in select retirement communities).
